Staff Absence Insurance

New policy improvements

From reviewing our claims data and listening to valuable feedback from our clients, we have revised our policy to ensure it caters to exactly what schools want, and need from their staff absence insurance. As a result, taking out cover with us will entitle all schools to the new and improved cover benefits below.

Supporting documentation
Our specialist Claims Support Assistant will liaise directly with GPs to retrieve any reports we need from them to process your claim.

Absent members of staff or the school must retrieve any doctor’s report we need to process your school’s claim.

Time limits
Schools now have 45 calendar days (after the reporting date) to provide us with the supporting documentation we need to assess your claim.

Maternity benefit
If your school selects our maternity benefit option, we will now provide cover for any unknown pregnancies conceived up to 30 calendar days prior to the policy start date.

Pregnancies conceived prior to the policy start date are excluded from our maternity cover.

Bereavement benefit 
If a member of staff is absent due to the death of a direct relative, we will indemnify your school with 100% of the chosen daily benefit for up to five working days of absence. In addition, we now provide cover for an additional 10 working days of absence if an insured member of staff is signed off from work as a result of their reaction to the bereavement of a direct relative.

We will indemnify your school with 100% of the chosen daily benefit for up to five working days of absence.

Resignation cover
We will cover on-going claims where the insured person resigns, has their employment terminated or is made redundant for five working days of absence from the date in which the resignation, termination or redundancy is tendered, notified to or accepted by your school.

Chronic conditions cover
Insured members of staff absent as a result of a chronic condition that existed prior to the policy start date of cover will be covered for up to 10 working days.

Ofsted or Estyn cover
We now provide cover for absences caused as a result of an adverse Ofsted or Estyn inspection or report for up to five working days.
